is necessary. Only components that are scored
or show other unusual signs of wear must be
replaced.

Brake
Adjusting pawl
If the teeth of the adjusting pawl are
assembly (1)

scored or rounded, replace the adjusting
pawl. If there is any doubt, replace the
adjusting pawl.

Adjusting plunger

If the internal scoring has rough

ridges, or the pawl guide slot is
deeply scored, replace the adjusting
plunger.

If the roller ramp of the adjusting
plunger is brinelled, replace the
adjusting plunger.

Adjusting pawl
Check for proper tension on spring
spring (4)
(tension on spring should be 7.5 lbs.
with spring compressed to 9/16 of an inch).

Actuator (5)
If there is abnormal wear or damage such
as metal displacement along the tooth axis or
damaged teeth, replace the actuator.

Automatic
Check for proper operation of the auto-
adjusting
matic brake adjusters by checking the
bolt assem-
brake lining to brake drum clearance.

The automatic adjusters are working
properly if clearance at the dust shield
inspection holes is between 0.010" to
0.060".
