SECTION II
INSTALLATION
2-1. GENERAL.
2-2. Installation of an Imagery Interpretation (II) Segment is a two-phase operation. The first phase is the deployment
phase, which includes site selection and preparation, placement of equipment, erection of TEREC antennas (when
required), and connection of cables, air ducts and corridors. The second phase is preparation of equipment for use and
operational checkout. Table 2-1 is the installation checklist
2-3. DEPLOYMENT.
2-4 .SITE SELECTION. It is desirable to select a suitable site for deployment before the segment arrives. The site
should be reasonably flat with good drainage. The site dimension requirement depends on the segment configuration to
be deployed. Table 2-2 lists the deployment configurations and the site area requirements Soil types and accepted loads
are given in table 1-5.
2-5. SITE PREPARATION. After the site has been selected and before the equipment arrives, the site should be
prepared for the deployment of the segment. Perform the following steps to prepare the site.
a.
Survey and stake the site to establish the location of all units and cable runs (see figure 2-1).
b.
Clear foliage from unit locations, access routes and cable runs.
2-6. PLACEMENT. When the shelters arrive, they should be positioned in accordance with the plot plan in figure 2-1.
Figure 2-2 is a plot plan for TEREC-equipped shelters. The units to be positioned are shelters, Air Conditioner Groups
(ACGs), power generating units, TEREC antennas (when required), and fuel tanks. When the units are deployed, they
should be prepared for use. The procedures for preparation of the units for use are contained in the unit manuals listed in
table 1-1.
2-7. INSTALLATION.
WARNING
Do not connect shelter power until shelters and ACGs are grounded. Refer
to installation procedures In shelter and ACG manuals listed in table 1-1.
2-8. Installation procedures for the shelters, ACGs, TEREC antennas, and distribution box are contained in the applicable
manuals listed in table 1-1.
2-9. SEGMENT CABLING. All cables required for operation of an II Segment are provided with the shelters, ACGs, and
distribution box. Power cables for the AN/TYQ-11 segments are furnished with the distribution box. Power cables for the
AN/TYQ-12 segment are not provided. Terminals are provided on the shelter cable entry panel for connection of a field
telephone and secure data links to points outside the segment. Terminals to connect TEREC antennas are provided on a
separate panel. External cables for the field telephone and secure data links are not provided with the II Segment.
External connectors on the shelters are grouped on two panels to the left of the main door (curbside) and on a panel near
the emergency door for TEREC-configured shelters. Connectors are marked so that cable connections can be made by
matching the letters marked. Figures 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, and 2-6 are cabling diagrams for all six segment configurations
including the TEREC configuration. Table 1-6 gives connection data for external interface.
