This chapter contains general information pertinent to the General Purpose Tents and describes the components to
enhance the understanding of their use and function.
Section I.
GENERAL INFORMATION

Scope.
a.
Type of Manual.
This technical manual includes operator, unit and direct support (DS) maintenance
procedures for the three General Purpose Tents (small, medium, and large). Additional maintenance data relevant to a
designated tent can be found in the applicable end item technical manual.
b.
Equipment Name and Model Numbers. This technical manual covers the Tent, General Purpose, Small (NSN
8340-00-740-2335), Medium (NSN 8340-00-482-3963), and Large (NSN 8340-00-470-2342) (figure 1-1).
c.
Purpose of Equipment. The General Purpose tents are designed to provide shelter, be easily
portable and very durable when properly maintained.

Maintenance Forms and Records. Department of the Army forms and procedures used for equipment
maintenance will be those prescribed by DA Pam 738-750, The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).
Refer to the latest issue of DA Pam 25-30 (Consolidated Index of Army Publications and Blank Forms) to determine if
there are new editions, changes or additional publications pertaining to the equipment. Air Force personnel will use AFR
66-1 for maintenance reporting and TO-00-35D54 for unsatisfactory equipment reporting.

Destruction of Army Materiel to Prevent Enemy Use. Destruction of Army equipment to prevent enemy use
shall be in accordance with TM 750-244-3.
