Prepare surface for painting by removing all corrosion by wire brushing, sanding, or application of
Chemically treat all aluminum parts in accordance with MIL-C-5541, Class 1A.
Areas to be painted shall be free of dust, residue, and cleaning compounds before refinishing.
Solvent, primer, or paint shall not be applied to seals or non-metal parts. Mask such parts with masking
tape for protection.
Check paint data plate for primer used.
Mix and apply epoxy primer coating in accordance with MIL-P-53022 or MIL-P-23377.
Allow to dry thoroughly before applying finish coat.
Mix and apply paint in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
Apply two separate, uniform coats. Make sure there are no sags or runs.
Allow first coat to dry before applying second coat-
4-44. DECAL REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT
Use a putty knife (or similar tool) to peel decals off all surfaces.
Clean all decal mounting surfaces.
Apply sealing compound, Item 19, Appendix E, to the rear of decals and position on mounting surfaces.
